Dash Board Light

Post by Stevie R »

Does anyone else have a dashboard light (as shown in the attached photos) it appears to be redundant as there is no electrical supply to it but I wondered what it would have been for?

I have similar repeater lights on the top of the dash for the indicators. They’re redundant now I’ve fixed the stalk wiring.
Could be a reverse light or fog light warning if either of those are fitted?

Cheers

It's an aftermarket addition by a previous owner.
So you can take your pick of anything you can imagine.
Car looks to be between Feb '59 - Nov '61, but red lamp could literally could be for anything.
Unless the person who disconnected it left some wiring tucked away somewhere behind the dash which you can trace, then just accept that it's filling a hole in the dashboard.
Those 2 neat little holes above and below it are extras too.
Either leave it alone, repurpose it for your own project, perhaps Reversing or Fog Light tell-tale, or blank it off if it's concerning you.

It's a pity the car isn't Black, black grommets are easy to find....

As suggested - it was probably a warning light for some forgotten accessory long ago. It isn't part of the original specification.
Your car clearly has several other modifications which have been carried out over the years - which is not uncommon  .

It is good practice to fit a rear screen heater with one, nothing drains a battery faster.
