What colour should the fan be?
Hi, does anyone know whether the fan should be red or yellow on a Dec 1959 Traveller? Thanks!

Searching the forum there is little consensus . Certainly early Series III seem to have had red fan blades and pulleys and the changeover date is not, it appears fixed. Owners with 1960 cars report red, but others with 1958/ 9 cars reports yellow. Yours looks very nice yellow. Ian has not painted the rocker cover as it looks nice and original.

Thanks J! I’ll check in the manuals when I’m home next week. Ian took a red one off but assumed it should be yellow. T would obviously prefer a red one

Sky blue pink with a yellow border is very eye catching.

There was no change in part number for the Fan blades, hence there is no formal indication of a change point of fan colour.
I've looked through the Parts Lists and they are consistent across the 803/98/1098 engines.
Pulley - 2A 601
2 Blade Fan - 2A 135
4 Blade Fan - 2A 241
What I hadn't realised, until I just checked all the illustrations, was that while the 803/948 had the 4 Blade Fan listed and annotated 'For hot climates' the 4 Blade was not listed as an option for the 1098/10MA engine.
So you couldn't go into the Dealership and get a specific replacement Red or Yellow Fan Blade, you got whatever they had.

Geoberni, You list a different part number for the additional blade. I've never noticed a difference between the two. What do you think the difference is? I believe all Minors to the States or even all North America had two blades.

If I remember correctly the difference between the part numbers is down to the fact that the 2A 135 spares box contained 2 fan blades whereas 2A241 spares box contained 4 fan blades.

I guess that's very possible, it would certainly make sense logistically, shipping a package the dimensions of a Pencil Box rather than a small serving tray...philthehill wrote: ↑Sun Nov 10, 2024 12:20 pm If I remember correctly the difference between the part numbers is down to the fact that the 2A 135 spares box contained 2 fan blades whereas 2A241 spares box contained 4 fan blades.
I'm just going by the details in the Parts lists. Phil seems to remember the 4 Blade simply being a 2 pack of 2 Blades.
In which case why bother to stock separate items in the global supply chain, and not just annotate the Parts Book 'For Hot Climates, use 2 blades together instead of Blade and Stiffner'...
. .
There's no 4 Blade for the 10MA/1098 illustration, they must've decided it wasn't necessary....

@geoberni - and for the interesting diversion into 2 or 4 blades!
