I keep stumbling upon non standard things on our new to us MM.
I seem to have identified that the engine has a 1275 head. Why? because of the angled position of the heater valve and the layout of machining around the thermostat. I have no idea why it has such a head, the carb and manifolds look very stock to me.
Anyway...
The edge of the battery tray has been cut to allow the heater valve to fit and the valve protrudes into the space that would normally be occupied by the front of a 063 or 038 battery. The valve is the normal one operated from inside the car and works well. The battery in there appears to be an 053 which seems a more uncommon and hence more expensive size.
So...
Is there a heater valve that can be operated from inside the car that can be twisted on its seat to adjust the angle? Or is this only on the tap type valve?
I assume that most batteries are plenty powerful enough for a Morry and that so long as it fits and that the terminals are the right way round (its converted to negative earth) then it should be fine?

I'm having difficulty picturing what you describe about the ...
Meanwhile, here's a list of battery choices I researched. Type numbers and dimensions details.

Re: Yet another battery question
I recently fitted a new 038 battery and despite comments about its rating it starts the engine easily.
As you can see in attached picture it is smaller than the battery tray. Also you can see the heater valve although mine is standard 1098 cylinder head.

Re: Yet another battery question
You may not have a 1275cc head. What is the casting number which can be found beneath the rocker shaft?
You may have a small bore unleaded head.
Declan Burns did a modification to allow the Minor cockpit operated heater valve to be fitted to a 940 1275cc head.
Basically it consists of two bottom flanges with a short pipe between them so allowing the Minor heater tap to be aligned as original.
Use the search facility to find the thread. Several others on here have made the same adapter.
I have searched and it appears the photos of the adapter have time expired. There is quite a bit of information remaining though.

Re: Yet another battery question
The casting number is:
MOWOG
12G940
92
Elsewhere it has NO4
Excuse the general muck in these pics which are from a while back.

Re: Yet another battery question
Thank you for the pictures. I have seen worse engine bays.
Two of the adapters in the link below with a short pipe between them will allow you to angle the heater tap as required.

Re: Yet another battery question
Thanks, that's a great help.
The battery size problem is about the front to back dimension. Being negative earth the terminals are close to the bulkhead. I am inclined to put a bit of packing behind the battery to bring it forward and give them a little more 'air'. Hence the problem with the angled heater valve.
Your solution will help me solve the problem without recourse to a 'thinner', more expensive, battery such as 053 which has a width front to back of 129mm

Re: Yet another battery question
As regards the pipe between the two adaptors you should be able to get a double union from your local pluming supplies.
This is the type of union I would use but without the union nuts.

Thanks, I may even have one of those or something similar in my 'useful plumbing bits' box, the contents of which have sat undisturbed for some years!
