Re: Brakes and Hubs Nightmare
Latecomer to this thread. So the bearings should easily slide over the stub axle without any pressure? With my kit they seem to fit too high and so you can't as J says put on, add nut, tighten up and drive off!

What kit are you fitting or have fitted?
The bearings should slide onto the stub axle with slight pressure.
The early Mr Grumpys Marina disc brake conversion used a spacer for the inner bearing and if I remember correctly a classic Mini rear hub bearing for the outer bearing. I have the bearing part numbers if required.
Later kits have new hubs and revised bearings.
I have gone the whole hog and fitted Marina stub axles to alleviate any bearing issues.
Whichever kit you fit the hub bearings have to have play. The bearings are not fully tightened/pre-loaded as per factory fitted Minor wheel bearings.

Re: Brakes and Hubs Nightmare
That sounds like the issue I had in 2017 fitting the ESM kit, the bearings wouldn't seat properly on the stub axle.
I ended up cleaning up the stub axle with wet and dry, and buying new SK bearings from a local supplier and after that it went together fine. Part numbers are in the thread.

Bigger bearings are 30205 A.
Other markings are an M and URB (not sure about the B). Those seem to tie in with those in Neil's thread.

Thought I'd update. I first bought some more bearings and they fit one set of the three pairs of stub axles slightly better. So I think that the tolerances are very small and the need to clean the stub axles up is more than I thought! Amazing how what looks straightforward never is on a 60+ year old car!
