Front bump stop repair

Does anyone know if there is a repair panel available for where the front upper bump stop mounts to the inner wing or is it a DIY fabrication job? I've looked on ESM and could not find one.

It is a do it yourself repair.
Cut out the rust and weld in a plate of steel to suit the hole which of course must be of suitable gauge.
One of the last welding jobs I had to do on my Minor.

Thanks Phil,what guage metal did you use? I'll do it once off road for winter, I think one off the huge pot holes on the last outing found the weak point around the bump stop and pushed it up At least it's still there

Off the top of my head I do not know. I just used a piece of metal sheet I had and which had the same thickness as the rest of the inner wing. You can get a thickness measurement off the bump stop inner reinforcing plate which is the same gauge.

Thanks Phil, need to make new lower edge to the reinforcement plate aswell as plating inner wing top.At least with wiper motor removed access looks reasonable.

Thankfully the repair required to my Minor was not as serious as that shown in your photo above.
Moss Europe list the boxing/closing plates wheel arch to flitch Pt No: AAA1431(RH) & Pt No: AAA1432(LH).
Unfortunately both are currently out of stock but if you are not in any hurry.

Thanks for the info Phil, ordered so just awaiting date from Moss. It will be a good start to repair and fab the rest of the repair. Do the bump stop bolts pass through the plate as holes are not visible in the illustration in the parts manual.

Think I may bolt in a piece of angle as temp repair to remount bump stop to keep it in operation.

I'm not sure why you'd recommend a supplier who is a). relatively costly @ £12.79 and b). doesn't actually have the item available but ESM - who sell these to Moss anyway - have them in stock for just £8.94 including VAT

I couldn't find it originally on esm as they don't use the OE part number but I have subsequently.

ESM are a very good business to deal with and generally have good deals but I agree that their website isn't always the easiest to follow.
Personally I always telephone them and ask for the parts I require. They are very helpful and knowledgeable on the telephone

You are correct in that the ESM web site is not the easiest to navigate. I did search their web site and used their search facility and nothing came up not even a part number/reference or illustration.
Because I could find no information to the the part on the ESM web site I put up the link to Moss Europe. Better to have some information than non at all.
Having searched the ESM web site again this morning and after putting up various names for the part I have now found the boxing plate - see link below:-

The rear bolt securing the bump stop passes through the flange of the boxing plate and inner wing. The front bolt passes through the inner wing and the flitch plate flange.

If you can't find an item on ESM ring them they are most helpful. I couldn't find DIF155 extended grease nipple. Rang and John confirmed for some reason it had been removed from the website but he went and checked the bin and confirmed stock. All while I waited on the phone.

Managed to cancel my Moss order and reordered from ESM once part identified.
Today I've managed to bend the lip and bump stop back to the correct position. I have fitted a temporary brace bolted to good metal and the bump stop. At the end of the season when not in use I plan to cut out the corroded section of wheel arch and fabricate a repair patch to weld in and the replacement inner wing plate.

Made a start on repair, the bump stop itself appears undamaged, but notice on ESM the right and left appear to have different shaped mounting plate as shown in pics.
Is this correct and does anyone know why?

The two bump stops are different because of the way the body is shaped above the trunnion/swivel. The body shape means that the bump stop has to be angled R/H & L/H so as to contact the top of the trunnion/swivel.

Thanks Phil, I'll take note when making the replacement panel insert for the inner wing. The front mounting bolt position is still intact.
