Steering rack damper

Post by Bill_qaz »

How easy is it to change the secondary rack damper with the rack in situ? Is the plug easy to access? Under the car or from back of engine bay or nearside wheel arch, which is best. Lots of pictures online but always with rack removed, cannot find a picture in the installed position.

I replaced these dampers Bill, I didn’t remove the rack and if I recall, access was from behind the removed wheels.

Hey Bill, changing the secondary rack damper with the rack in place can be a bit tricky but definitely doable. The plug is usually accessible from underneath the car or through the nearside wheel arch. I’d recommend getting under the car and using a flashlight to locate and access the plug. Take your time and be patient, and you should be able to get it done without removing the rack. Good luck with the repair, man!

Thanks but see previous post. Changed it as per Les suggestion, took off wheel and did from side, quite easily.

Hi Bill (and every other MMOC member)
Take no notice of MidnightMechanic’s posts
“He” just selects words from each post, adds words of vague encouragement, and pads it all with meaningless Americanisms. Reeks of an algorithm!
Apologies to “him” if “he” is a human.
