I think it all comes down to personal choice, mine are above the rear lights as I wanted them higher up, but on the bumper is fine but may not be seen by a vehicle close behind you.

Well this topic has been discussed recently and the thread contains a link to a car with indicators fitted under the bumpers: viewtopic.php?t=77739
Of course, it is possible to design and fit brackets so that the lights are above the level of the bumper. Anyone nowadays sympathetically restoring an older model would go the bumper route, rather than cutting holes in the wing.

Personally, from a safety point of view I'm in agreement with Rose taupe, having them under the rear bumper is a bit low and people up behind you in traffic can't see them.
Equally, the flat L488 style point up at about 45 degrees, so are by no means perfect. There is the option of adding angled plinths to them though...

But there's no reason you can't add Motorcycle style above the bumper. a small hole in the valance is easier to make, or to later rectify, than a large hole in the wing. See this link it shows standalone indicators: https://www.autoelectricsupplies.co.uk/ ... +indicator
I mentioned in your other post yesterday that this subject had been discussed recently. viewtopic.php?p=700052#p700052

As said by other is your priority safety or is it aesthetics?
I even change my white fronts to amber and put sidelight in headlights as I thought white indicators were not as noticed by some.
Also do you know in your picture your number plate light is upside down
