Odd noise from rear

I have successfully tracked down and cured many rattles on my 1964 Minor 1000 but whats left is an annoying little tapping from the rear. Its mainly over bumps but occassionally just taps when it feels like it!

With me shaking the car about in the garage and my wife with her head in the boot we have identified the problem.

Its the float on the petrol level sensor seamingly hitting something. The tank is half full and the petrol gauge works perfectly. The metal tank and surroundings is amplifying the tapping so it can be heard when driving.

Is this a common phenomemon and can it be fixed.

If I can get in there I will take a photo in case the sensor has been changed in its earlier life to a non standard one.

Can't look at moment as mine is in storage but if you Google illustrations show flat top not raised like your picture.
With tank half full it cannot hit bottom or top of tank by rocking but listening to your video does sound like something hitting tank.
Why not remove sender and repeat test?

Have been doing some research on ESM

My petrol float assembly is the correct one for the year. It has six fixing holes but cant find if is fitted in the correct orientaion - my wire exits to the front of the car.

Dont want to risk taking it apart during the driving season, just in case.

Can anyone direct me to fitting instructions as ESM say the float needs adjusting and my adjustment may be wrong.

My initial thought is that the entire unit is round the wrong way and the float is hitting the nearest 'wall, as it moves up. I'd try turning the whole thing 180 degrees (wire exiting to rear) so the float has more room to arc up and down

The unit is fitted correctly.
Just look at the ESM image and the orientation of the float to the Body. The hole in the tank is so far towards the 'front' of the car, i.e. the furthermost wall of the tank as you look at it in the boot, that there is unlikely to be any room for the float to move if fitted back-to-front.
Further, referring to that image again, in relation to the electrical connection, the arm is towards the rear of the car.

I don't see how the float is tapping on the inner top surface if the tank is only half full?
The tank has no baffles inside it, as far as I'm aware, so there will be some slopping around, but it seems very odd it's bouncing that much...

The Parts List also illustrates the orientation in that direction. This image confused me when I first saw it.
A very strange location to draw the 'filler neck', item 5, looking like it's coming out of the tank...
