Hi all,
Looking for some advice please - I have just ordered new rear side window rubbers x 2 for my 1966 Morris 1000 2 Door. First thing I noticed on a comparison with the windows still in the car was that the rubbers appear to be oversized and too long. They measure 1 inch longer in length and about 3/4 inch longer in height when compared to the old ones. I have not removed the old window yet as I am concerned that there is going to be an issue upon refitting and don't want car sitting with no window in it.
Supplier is reputable and advises me that he has sold hundreds of these with no return issues or concerns reported and that the manufacturer of the rubbers is a major supplier of these over many years. Going by this the sizing should be correct.
My question is has anyone experienced this oversizing with fitting new rear side window rubbers? Is there a reason for the new rubbers to be oversized like this and is this normal? Photo attached shows rough idea of extent oversizing length when compared - seems to me that the rubber would have to be bunched up to make it fit.
Many thanks.

Don’t think the height would matter would it be possible to cut excess. As for width do you think if window was out you might find they sit in further than looks holding it up against it. Or if you were careful when windows out and fitted would it be possible you could you cut and quality glue a new corner you would only need to do one corner.
Just a thought. Sorry can’t help further.

Re: Rear Side Window rubbers fitting query oversized?
Thanks for the reply. The 3 corners are reinforced in the seal itself and I would not be for cutting and rejoining it to shorten it or messing with it that way.
The width of the rubber itself is not an issue and in fact this photo is showing the wrong side of the profile showing on the outer side - this rubber is actually for the other side window of the car and the rounded profile should be out not the flat side as shown. I think the width would be fine - I just put the rubber up to compare the length and height and did not pay attention to the profile when I took the photo.
I have since seen a couple of old threads on this forum complaining of a loose fit with these rear side window rubbers and I am now more convinced that the fit is just wrong and way too big for the window and aperture. I am going to make making some more enquiries to see there is a better fit from another supplier before I go any further with it.
Photo attached shows how much longer the length at the bottom is - it would be miles away from the glass when its out IMHO. Sorry the photos are not great!

Is it possible that you have been supplied with rubbers for convertible back windows?
I believe convertible back windows are 'longer; than saloons.

Re: Rear Side Window rubbers fitting query oversized?
@stuffedpike20 - thanks I had wondered that myself but the convertible rubber comes in two separate pieces - consisting of an L shaped piece and then a top rubber so it is different altogether. Mine is all in one piece and the part no with it is correct for 2 dr Morris 1000 saloon.
Just realised that the second photo might look misleading i.e the rest of the one piece rubber is hanging down the side of the car in that photo and not up against the frame - I took it that way to get a clear idea of the length difference at the bottom.
I am trying to get length and height dimensions for rubbers from another supplier to see if theirs is a shorter version. Will update if I hear anything. Bit like chasing shadows so far to get an answer on it!

Re: Rear Side Window rubbers fitting query oversized?
Sorry Molly, I thought I had cracked it!
It is a shame that there are so few parts suppliers today compared to a few years ago. Some re manufactured parts just do not seem to fit any more.
For example, I think a lot of us have fitted brand new brake shoes only to find that the adjusters go to the end of their travel without locking up the drums.
Good luck with your problem.
