Universal joints

Post by betjent »

Hi everybody

Im gonna change my universal joints because of a "click" noise when taking off in 1 st gear . think they are worn out. :(
Can any body tell me if the small needles/bearings in the driveshaft needs renewal too ? I havent seen them at sale anywhere - only the universal joints.

happy weekend and cheers

Hello Carsten,

when you buy the kit to repair the joints it comes complete with new needle bearings in the cups. Try and keep the propellor shaft in the same orientation as the input and out put sleeve\flange are when you dismantle them as this may help keep the balance. That is, mark the two halves with something (I use typewriter correction fluid Tippex) and put the back in the same position and not 180 degrees out.

U/Js

Please ensure that you buy the new u/js which have grease nipples
they will last much longer than the sealed type(provided you grease
them)!

And mark the flanges where you take the shaft off the diff - and put it back in the same place.
