Over on facebook, a chap was discussing the overhaul of Front Dampers and it was noticed that the Damper he posted a photo of had been modified to have a grease nipple on the top.
He's now opened it up to find that the previous owner had indeed been putting grease into them....

Even if you fit tele dampers the lever dampers should have the valves removed and be filled with oil not grease.

It's possible to put oil through those nipples isn't it? Like we were meant to in the steering rack.

That's what I suggested yesterday, perhaps someone had been enterprising, they'd damaged the filler cap threads and adapted the Oil Nipple idea;... but no, they had done the totally barmy instead...

Here's a little montage of images from the fb post. From the look of the little trace inside the lid, it's GP Grease, but most of it is a horrible black, probably contaminated by the Oil sludge that remained in it before the grease was added.

As dampers wear, it used to be "the thing" to move from SAE30 through 50 to SAE90 in order to stiffen the reaction. Perhaps the grease was just a logical extension of that idea
