carbon release bearing fail

The release bearing has worn out on my minor 1968 model.I had noticed a metal cllnking and put it down to a loose bit of metal on the exhaust.

My question is,could the wear be caused by seized relay shaft bushes preventing the brake and clutch to work independently. So when you are braking ,the clutch bearing was dragging?The car is to be repaired and would like to advise the repairer that this might have been the cause.

The relay shaft normally does not seize but the clutch/brake pedal does. The clutch and brake pedals are mounted and move on a common shaft.
The gearbox (or engine) has to come out to replace the carbon thrust and to get the gearbox out the relay shaft assy has to be removed. Get the garage to check that all is well with the relay shaft but more importantly that the brake and clutch pedals are free.
Whilst the gearbox is out get the garage to remove the clutch and brake pedals clean up the shaft and bearings and re-fit them well smothered in grease.
You can fit a grease nipple to the brake pedal which will help keep both clutch and brake pedals free.

That answers the problem Phil,

I noticed when I pushed the pedals by hand ,both moved at the same time,I freed them up but Unfortunately the damage to the bearing had taken place when using the brake like riding the clutch .before I freed the pedals.
