Replacement engine

Post by Molly123 »

Hi
I’ve recently received the heritage certificate for my 1966 2 door Minor. It shows the original engine number which is different from that on the present engine. I had assumed it was a replacement as there is no Morris plate on it.
What I’d like to know is it an A+ engine.? My mechanical knowledge is next to zero so I’m hoping that someone on the site can help me to find out.
Many thanks
Seth

Nobody can tell you without a few clues. What engine capacity is it? Where is the oil filter positioned? Can you post a few photos of your engine? The A+ engine is quite different and not a particularly straightforward swap.

The 'A' Plus 1275cc engine has additional ribbing to the block. The 1275cc pre 'A' Plus does not have the ribbing.
There is little difference internally between the pre 'A' Plus and the 'A' Plus engines.
The Marina/Ital 1275cc engine has the oil filter above and to the rear of the distributer.
Below is a Marina 'A' Plus engine - note the additional ribbing to the block.

That looks a pretty standard 1098cc Minor 1000 engine to me - although probably later than 1966 from the breather system? The mounting bracket is still present but the PCV valve seems to have disappeared at some time?
Many of these cars have received a replacement engine during their long lives

Many thanks MM.
Always good to talk to someone who knows what they’re talking about.
