Metro 1300cc

Post by rabiddog »

I have a metro 1300 engine, is it possible to seperate engine from box add a sump and put it into a moggie?
I think i remember reading a few years ago that the crank was shorter and I feel the fly wheel would want changing
Any help appreciated

Not really worth the effort.

You would need an Ital/Marina crank and I don't think that they will fit the Metro block without some engineering as I think that the crank journal size may be slightly different.

I don't know if the rods would be compatable either.

I understand that it is possible, as I have seen Metro turbo conversions, but it is really not worth the bother.

It is much better and easier to get an Ital engine and recon it.

I know of a van that used to have an engine from an Austin 1300 - it had the box taken off and had a sump. It looks much more authentic then the Marina engine (oil filter position etc). And apparently it really flew - much more pickup than the Marina. It took a bit of work tho - line bore etc.
