???????? What do you mean by that?? At least on the Minor, the carbs are sticking out of the side of the engine where they should be!Weber roar is a bit lost on a Minor ! Now on a Mini - I agree !!

Damn site harder to fit to a mini too unless you hack a hole in the bonnet (downdraught) or weld a battery box in the bulkhead for clearance........
back to the topic of the camshaft for a moment, Ive had a look at the piper cams website, and they will do a performance "ultimate road" cam, but it says it is for 1275 and larger. what are the implications of fitting this to a 1098?? they will make it with a pin drive slot for £83.
1969 Four door Saloon Old English White 1275 with ported head and HS4 carb. Wolseley 1500 front brakes. Currently off the road with a leaky master cylinder!
Ohhhh - 285 is a bit much for a 1098 which is the longest stroke crank of all the (standard) A series range. The 285 will only start to work properly at something over 3000 and will run on to 8000 or more - snag is - the 1098 crank breaks if run over 6500 for any length of time ! To be honest - the very best road cam I have found is the MG Metro item (NOT the Turbo !) - which was devised by Rover to give great torque - fair economy - pass the emissions test - and to run out of breath early enough to stop MG Metro owners over-revving their engines nad causing warranty problems. It really is a superb cam - but is only available with the peg drive. So a matching oil pump is needed - it's easy to fit (bolts straight in) and has greater oil pumping ability too - but of course it does need the engine pulling out to fit it ! However - £5 on ebay for the MG cam, and another £10 (also ebay) for brand new pump - beware there are two types - long nose for 1275 engine(also 970 and 1070 S engines) , short nose for 948/998/1098 engines. Only takes a few hours to pop the engine and change the pump !

The 285 will be too hairy for the 1098. If it's for a 1275 then putting it in a smaller cc engine will make it seem more [Andew & Lou look away now] 'cammier'. It will also be a right pain to drive in traffic.
I'm sure they would do a 276 or equivalent. Why not try Kent cams? Or eBay (as bmcecosse says) if you know what you are looking for.
The crankshaft damper fits on the end of the crank. It's a heavy version of the crank pulley. I have never fitted one to a 1098, only 1275s but I'm told that it just fits straight on as a replacement.
