tyre stem issue TR412/TR413

Post by cyrus »

Hi I have a couple of spare wheels for my minor which I have been refurbishing. So I was ready to have the new tyres put on and the guy tells me that the TR413 valves that I had bought were too small in diameter and would not fit properly. So I ordered a few TR412 valve stems thinking that the spare wheels I have are perhaps from an earlier Minor.
Please see pic, the longer valve is the 413 and the stubbier one the 412, the shoulder and bottom of the valves are the same diameter though. The bigger broken off stub is what was in the old rim. What have I got here? The new valves have "TR412 "and "TR413 "moulded into the rubber, the old stub just has "Schrader" and "Made in England"

You must have early wheels as fitted upto around 1958 from memory. You just need some valves with larger diameter stems.
I bought some for my car recently from Vintage Tyres who have branches at Beaulieu and at Bicester.

Thanks, any idea what the code for these is? I am beginning to think TR415 but don't want to order a 3rd lot only to find they are wrong as well

See the chart on this page. You need a 415 (or 425) They are the only 2 that fit the larger hole.

You'll need to confirm 415 before ordering since it appears in the list twice with different specifications.

You'll need to confirm 415 before ordering since it appears in the list twice with different specifications. I suspect the correct number would be in the 42* series. There may be multiple errors in that list.

Why not just let the tyre supplier provide and fit the required valves at the same time as they fit the tyres.

I never noticed that error. As is often the case, with websites copying each other, the same error appears on another page I found....

But where I've searched for TR415, the Spec where given is:
TR415 Rubber Snap In Tubeless Tyre Valve. The TR415 valve is suitable for wheels with an 16mm rim hole. The valves are 32mm in length and have a maximum inflation pressure of 4.5 bar.

Would be only too happy to but no-one round here seems to have them!

re: 415 being listed twice with different specs that is a bit awkward....
Thanks Phil I suspect these would be right, will double check the rim tomorrow when it's light. So I am in taxi territory or vw beetle, landrover etc. My local fitters say they remember them from a long time ago but haven't used them for years. Thank you for all the replies
