I'd love to drive it back but I'd lose around three weeks wages in doing so! A few other teams are planning to ship their cars back, so cost and space permitting I may find a way to bring her back (don't count on it though!).

I'm sure that there must be a motor museum of sorts in Ullan Baatar. The city is quickly evolving and has taken advantage of foreign investment. Maybe a British company could exhibit her. I'm not just going to leave her to rot (if I can help it!)

The comment about bitter was intended to be more subjective than offensive John - Sorry if I struck a raw nerve!

Can anyone confirm that a succesful trip would be a record for a Minor? I've not heard of anyone driving one further than Turkey though I'm guessing that one or two may have made it to India.

Thanks

James.

It would appear that London-Sydney is about 1800m further than London-Ullan Baatar.

Did the team make it?

I may have to drive back!

Lol

Just found the link on the BBC site - http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/here ... 906411.stm

Well done to the lady. Sadly, I cannot get the time off work to do that.

To address an earlier point, if you want to donate then writing a cheque to the charity of your choice (Save the Children or Send a Cow) and then posting it to me (message me for my address) would be the 'safest' way of doing this.

Come on people, dig deep - The money goes to 2 very worthwile causes and I'll share all my stories when I return :)

Thanks

James.

I know it would cost a packet to get it back, but any abandoned Mog is a sad thing.

As for 'one less Morris being no great loss', ' ...ask not for whom the bell tolls...'

I agree absolutely.

"One less Morris being no great loss" shows not much love for these great cars :(

Yes there may be quite a few Mogs left in the UK at the moment, but the number is diminishing rapidly. For example, I've recently seen a suspected abandoned van here in East Kent. The question is, how to go about establishing the car is abandoned, and if so, whats the legality of claiming it and the mechanics of transferring ownership?? I'm sure I could establish whether its savable by a roadside inspection, but calling the Police, then the inevitable "Police Aware" stickers, then the windows get smashed and it becomes a burnt out wreck. If not savable, then at least the parts could be salvaged.

Far better than being crushed by the council :(
Cheers John - all comments IMHO

To calim an abandoned vehicle you would have to contact the DVLA, Police and Environmental Health at your District Council. Quite often (and in this case likely) if the insurers (in the event of it being stolen) declare it worthless they will allow you to collect it. Best liase with the three to get your name around first.

I think you must wake up in the night from your nightmares about Minors! - Do you dream about them being crushed, crashed, burnt and abused?

I hope ours makes it to Mongolia where it will be given to a deserving local to own and appriciate. If she fails to make it there and Charlie cannot ship me out bits in time then I will abondon her and give her to you on my return :)

If she does catch fire, gets shot-up, crashes or otherwise fails her country then I will of course send you a detailed description and picture.

I've been innundated with messages of support and the odd donation since appearing in the Bath Chronicle, Western Daily Press and on ITV news. It's a shame that you cannot be selfless enough to wish the wonder of the Minor onto someone outside of this country.

Still, no love lost.

Looking forward to meeting you tomorrow James - hope you have a big sign!
If I miss you, then will look for another opportunity to wish you well. :-D

Maybe someone should avoid looking at the Morris export figures! That would really give them a hard time.

The last but one I sold ended up in Belgium - Is that such a bad thing? The new owner certainly doesn't think so!
My last one ended up pimped  and I'm looking forward to getting a ride in it.

btw james - as yours is/was a 1098 - have they banned you or did I miss that you had an engine change?
Any car that has more than 1000cc of go is strictly forbidden as over-powered, and considered a risk to your ability to have fun.
nice paint job!
