Ebay lunacy!

Post by Boomlander »

Hi all,
I was watching some boot and bonnet hinges on Ebay which although stored for years were in very good condition.
Just for an experiment I bid them up to near full retail price for new units.
Sure enough the bids went straight past the cost of new hinges including gaskets from ESM............ Will these people never learn!
😂🙄

I often wonder how much shill bidding goes on by eBay sellers to artificially inflate the sale price. Probably quite a lot...
A bad day with my Volksie still beats a good day at work!

I'm sure there is some shill bidding by mates etc but I would rather fit very good original brightwork than most of the reproduction junk available now. I didn't see these parts so I can't comment but there were 2 distinct slightly different profiles of boot hinge manufactured for the Minor and the earlier (pre 1964) style are very hard to find now. If they were the earlier type and some bidders realised this, that would explain a higher price too

Very good points, the chrome plating on original parts is usually far superior to the replacements you buy today.
Decided to pay a bit more and managed to get both pairs for £90.
Will let you know if they live up to the quality expected!
