1275/1098 engine parts interchangability

Post by iwsmithy »

Hello All,

I've got a newly rebuilt 1275 engine, but only a 1098 distributor to fit to it. Are the 1275 and 1098 dizzys the same or different?

I have bought a magnatronic electronic ignition kit for the 1275 and been told that this is different to the 1098 version so the dizzys must be different somehow? Right?

Also, will a 1098cc waterpump fit into a 1275cc engine block and work OK.

Many thanks for any advice.

A couple of suppliers list the 1098 and 1275 waterpumps as the same unit.
Older and more confused than I could ever imagine possible.

Early 1098 water pumps are smaller - but later 1275 pumps will fit both (with a check to see the impeller doesn't foul up). The dizzy will probably fit if it is an early 1275 - but if it's a later one it may not. Depends if it is held in by two bolts (will fit) or by one bolt (not fit). However the advance curve on a 1098 dizzy will not be ideal for a 1275 engine - but as a short term measure it will be ok. I think electronic ignition is a waste of money - no advantage for a road car - and big dis-advantage when it goes wrong ! But do your own thing !!
