Today I finally took delivery of my '57 Traveller. Winter storms delayed transport for almost six weeks.

First off, I notice the choke knob can't be "locked" into position. I have to hold the knob pulled out. Once warm, and choke is released, the engine ticks over smoothly.

I assume the choke knob unit on the dash needs replacing? or is there a fix? Sometimes a "fix" is preferable to replacing an entire choke cable assembly.

Nice looking Traveller! I think Minors always look great in the snow! What country are you in?

With the choke, I have a vague feeling that there should be a twist in the cable between the knob and the carb, but others will know more about that. Mine has always just stayed in place even when I've disconnected the cable to service the carb so I'm not entirely sure.

As a fix, you can clip a clothes peg or two on the shaft when you've got the choke out.

Thanks James. I used the clothes peg trick on my old Triumph TR3. (I'm in Connecticut USA)

I haven't had the courage to peer under the dash panel yet, but I think there's a "catch" or identation on the knob stem which may have worn away after 60+ years. If it's not a big problem to replace the cable fixture, I may do that. But if the hardware is no longer available, I can certainly use the clothes peg technique.

James - I notice "will not fit cars using Pull start", which mine has. I'm also asking Moss in USA about their choke cable for the early Sprite. Part #4 in this diagram:

Ah, sorry, I just noticed you said 1957. This should be the right one.
