RE: what engine is it ????
If its still there looking at the engine from the front (fan end) on the right hand side near the front there should be a small 1 1/2" square plate rivited to the engine with the size on it eg; 1098
Cheers

RE: what engine is it ????
If the two engines are an unknown quantity and just purchased, personally I'd take the cylinder covers off anyway just to have a look at the pistons, bores and valve condition. The bore diameters could then be measured at the same time. This should indicate the engine c.c. Not sure of the measurements off hand but they are in Haynes etc. Of course if the plate Kevin suggests is still in place then that's a bit easier!

Take the rocker cover off and look at the casting number on the cylinder head - 1098 engine has 12G 202 head casting. Of course - someone may have put a 202 head on a 948 engine !! If the engine numbers are still there, the 1098 number starts (not surprisingly) with 10 !!
