Rear brake cylinders

Post by ronnie »

Hi. My rear brake cylinder is seized . Is it worth trying to strip it and fit a repair kit or renew cylinder. Any tips gratefully received

Always worth stripping and examining, but probably you will need a replacement cylinder - there is likely to be corrosion in the bore that will damage new seals, but you might be lucky. However, brakes are safety critical items, so do not "take a chance". Note that there are "genuine" or "original" cylinders and "pattern" (cheaper). Service kits are for the original type, not usually available for pattern. In my experience, the more expensive units fit better and with less effort.
