Tappet clearance

I’m going to adjust my vans tappets to 12 thou, some sources suggest 15 for exhaust, why would this be? I’ve never had any issues with the factory settings. I would imagine 15 would make a racket, which I wouldn’t want.

Thanks should have done a search first :-?——- I’ll do a loose 12 thou I think.

Probably as well you didn't search for it - along with claiming that coils were never at fault, it was one of Roy Allingham's favourite topics. I suspect you'd still be reading the posts now :lol:

I'd say it's worth it if you use the car 'hard' - I do quite a few motorway miles in mine and it's also pepped up so I've always used 15 thou on the exhaust valves. It isn't too noisy :D

He he - always a subject of debate with Roy! I have to say, like Les, I go for a 'loose' 12 thou.....and that after a conversation with a well-respected Minor enthusiast mechanic.....
