Recently purchased an eBay 2nd hand rear (back) axel casing.
When it arrived it looked in an okay'ish condition and much as the seller described.
I wasn't paying enough for it to look either clean or shiny.
A friend, Richard, urged a little caution as 'casing are notorious for corrosion at the spring mounting points."
So the clean up I was going to do I did expecting some corrosion.
And corrosion was indeed found, see photos.
The mounting pads that looked complete on initial inspection weren't really there at all after I'd cleared away the silt and the layers of rust and the casing tube has rusted through. The mounting pads will need to be replaced.
My questions
1- Has anyone had experience of letting in repair patch into a 'holed' casing?
2- The mounting pads do not appear to be fitted square to the differential mating face, at what angle are they inclined?
Any other advice would be very welcome.
