9 inch drums??

Post by Andymoor94 »

Oh dear! So I purchased brake shoes for what I believed to be the earlier cars, only to find they don't fit Eugene!
I've measured the drum and the internal diameter is 9 whole inches!! What on earth???

Surely that's not right? These must have been changed in the past, because I swear I'm suppose to have 7s!

I’m quite certain that your car would originally have had 7” drums. The later cars were 8”. I believe people used to upgrade to 9” Wolseley drums, but they’re now increasingly hard to find.
A bad day with my Volksie still beats a good day at work!

The 9inch brakes from the Wolseley (Lockheed) or the Riley (Girling) are both worthwhile upgrades on the Minor. The biggest problem nowadays will be finding the correct brake shoes and cylinders for them. A bit of searching around required.
