I fitted one to my traveller- In fact my car looked much like yours on the passenger side sill area.- not necessary to scrap the car because of that!!

Its not too bad an area to repair. The main problem being that the repair panel has squared folds and the folds on the car are rounder. It takes a bit of work, hammering, grinding and welding to get it to fit. The good thing is, the panel from ESM is of thick gaugue, so you can get enough weld on the join between repair section and car without blowing holes. Then grind the weld smooth.

The problem isn’t so much the sill section as my welding. I have only welded one thing so far and it looked rubbish. As the sill area is hidden under the cover panel as long as its solid I am not that worried about it. The problem is the middle of the B post next to the door catch has rusted through and there is no repair panel for that. The other problem is with the bottom of the gutters having rusted through into the car. (In a few places through the roof and out under the gutters) With the roof I was thinking about welding something to the inside and using filler to make the outside smooth. I'm not sure what to do with the gutters and b post yet. I'm sure something will come up. Otherwise it would be fun trying to make a convertible traveller.

well, as you might know the roof is falling off mine because of the PO's just covering rust with filler, then painting grr!

ahh, i see. I have that problem! We need to have a ring around and see if anybody is making new traveller shells

lol. You could do with one that is mechanically dead but structurally OK to transplant your oily bits into.

Oh and if anyone one has a running minor with an MOT and won't need welding for every MOT, I will quite happily take it off you for free! (But you would have to deliver it) hows about that for a deal

I'll go one better I'd pay for the delivery as long as the car was free. It would have to be a traveller though. Preforably with a k series engine

I've been told to beware of "unfinished projects" a traveller, if welded incorrectly by the hopeful bodger, could end up with a twisted shell (i.e, the steel floor/chassis).

Notice how that guy selling the "unfinished project" has not attempted to even fit the rear doors up, let alone the roof! I've heard horror stories of doors that are a whole inch too big for the gap remaining.......

warning heeded. However i was thinking of it more for nicking the roof and wood. I have had a garage transplant the roof on my saloon so as a traveller cab is half the size it should be only half as difficult

It should be less than half as difficult as a traveller roof is only welded at one end....

So i see. Bearing in mind I am not a trader I can say that I called several traders from Minor Matters today and was told that guttering was not avalible. Bearing in mind the images i have posted, would the guttering repair you PM'd me about allow me to repair the damage to the gutters on my car? (Potentially for Matt's too)

The part we can supply is the actual guttering itself, from the pics you have on page 1 of this thread you need part of the roof. If you open the door and look up at the guttering, you will see a section including the actual gutter, this is spot welded in place. If this part is rotten then your'e in luck. If the plate beneath this is rotten the a suitable section can be fabricated to achieve a repair. There are 3 layers of panel work that meet in the guttering, the roof and a small return, the inside rolled section ,and the guttering panel itself. I can e-mail a pic of my suggested repair panel tommorow evening if you wish, I may even have some of how to repair this whole section somewhere.
