popping fuses

hey people now this is strange as its my "good" area, basically ive been having popping fuses and i dunno why! basically i have multiple blade fuse boxes which i  added to my moggie for all my modern comforts, radio/lights, etc, and basically all was running fine until i went to my garage today an "pop" my 10amp fuse for my cd player went! i checked out my earth and tightened it even more, anuther try, "pop" another fuse, ok i thought a new earth so ive wired it directly to the negative terminal o­n my battery, and again "pop" any ideas? charly

My Kenwood unit at full wack drains 11.2 amps so its possible that your stereo uses more than 10 amps. I have also had fuses go do to shorts in the speakers or even a duff stereo.

hmm, but thats the problem it was running fine! im actually very good with electrics which is why i dont understand whats making the poping of the fuse(s) happen so it could be said im not very good at eletrics after all! as i said my earth contact is good, i tried a 15amp fuse aswell and still it popped!!! aaaah! please help, charly

First thing i would try is disconnecting everything from the stereo (power ariel, speakers, amp remote, etc) apart from power and earth, if it still blows then your stereo has had it (or is full of water) if its OK then re-connect things one at a time and see what kills it.

oooh, do u reckon if the remote wire was touching the car body it could blow the fuse???

any 12v out from the stereo could cause the fuse to blow. I have had it with speakers before (on an older strereo) where a short causes the fuse to blow. It could be the wire from your fuse block to the back of the stereo causing it. I would try running just the stereo by itself first then start going through devices (wiring, speakers, amp, etc) one by one.

Probably not the case with yours, but when this happened to me, it turned out to be broken down insulation in the wires in the ISO connector at the back, just where they enter the plug. Worth a look?

Yes!
Sometimes the radio will current limit that output, but sometimes it's straight off the on/off switch.

Hey guys! i solved the problem and i slapped myself when i discovered this!, all my wiring wass fine, remote wire was fine, etc, the problem was the,... Battery! i had stupidly wired the positive terminal to negative and visa versa!!! aaah, i did this without thinking as i put in a new battery, the batts fine just lost alot of fuses, but now everything works! so a word of advice when replacing ur battery make sure its, THE RIGHT WAY ROUND!!! charly (thanks for all your help!)
