Marina 1275 electronic ignition
Hi all , any experience of aftermarket electronic distributors ?
Vast difference in price ,with a wide variety of Units ,but no idea on quality and longevity .

Well my car runs fine on an Acuspark.
Once an electronic unit is set up, it should never change, unlike with points wearing and the gap changing.
The only Ignition problems I've had was the Coil....

agree. Mine has been in the car around 10 years or so and has never caused any reason for me to remove it. I'd never go back to the old points system. Why would you?

Although I'm less than 2 years in, my '62 1098 cc saloon has the Accuspark full kit fitted (distributor, coil, plug leads) and I'm well pleased with it.
Note: Accuspark spark plugs came with the kit but I took advice from other local members and chucked them in the boot to keep as spares!

Just fitted a Accuspark to my 1974 1275 automatic Morris Marina.This has the 23d4 dizy.No vaccum advance as it is Auto and High Compression.
I couldn't get it to idle smoothly.Very lumpy.So spoke to Accuspark and they sent me another module.No difference.Put my old plugs back in and much better but I still wasn't happy so I put the old coil back and now runs great.Why is that.Any coments fully appreciated thanks.

Seems like the coil was not matched?
Initially, I was thinking ignition leads (both king and plug) or mismatched plugs/leads, but as changing the coil seemingly solved the issue……

I have tried various systems over the years. I tried an Accuspark distributor and I was very unimpressed. The actual distributor itself is a cheap Far-East copy of a Lucas distributor and it has no functioning micrometer timing adjustment. The car ran adequately but checking the timing with a strobe, the timing mark wandered which did not inspire confidence. I then had my original Lucas 25D professionally rebuilt and ran the car on points again and it ran fine but could sometimes be awkward to start on damp winter mornings so I tried a Pertronix ignitor in distributor module. This was fine but the module seemed to have a tendency to overheat as evidenced by its label starting to discolour and scorch. Eventually, I fitted a Lumenition Optronic system (which is rather expensive) and everything has been fine for 1,000s of miles.

I have electronic ignition on both cars.As long as it is fitted correctly to the letter it is great but can be expensive.Not original but great reliability and less to stress about for those vnot so good with points.

I have the Lumenition Optronic electronic ignition system system with matching Lumenition coil fitted to my Minor. The distributer is a Aldon competition unit matched to the engine build spec. The distributor is not fitted with a vacuum advance unit.
The engine is based on a 1275cc 'A' Plus Marina/Ital unit.
The 1380cc engine would rev to 10000 rpm without fault or misfire. A Lumenition rev limiter was subsequently fitted to limit the revs to 7500rpm.
I consider the Lumenition Optronic system to be very suitable for the Marina/Ital engine. It is expensive but you do get what you pay for.

I did run with an Accuspark electronic ignition for a time. It gave no issues. The only downside, not major, is that the wiring is different for +ve earth. I decided, after some thought, what happens if it fails out on the road - carry another distributor or electronic module around just in case - to go back to points and a D.D. refurbished 25D4.

I am also positive earth. I was warned by Distributor Doctor that electronic ignition modules installed on positive earth cars are very fussy about the quality of the earth connection.

It is so easy to change the polarity of the electrical system on a Minor even if you retain the dynamo.
