Tipping saloons is quite common, the body is much more rigid. Steve is right to question some rollover jigs - those mounted on the rear bumper irons on a Traveller could certainly induce twist. I used a substantial timber frame bolted to the boot floor just behind the fuel tank to suspend the shell from my scaffold pole.

The short scaffold pole was meant to clamp the car in position, but it isn't too effective and I use the chain from my chain hoist at the engine end to hold it secure.

While I was looking for these pictures I found another which might help you Nam - with a saloon you don't often get to see the curved rear chassis but it really is the same as this! Ignore the bit of untrimmed steel just behind the front spring hanger.

That last picture is brilliant, thanks Mark! I can see the side chassis line that I need to carry through when doing the front spring hangers. Don't think i'm going to build a rig to suspend it in the air as I don't have any scaffold pipes etc. So will go with the method i'm thinking of straight on-to tyres.

I will admit i do struggle to see how i could twist my body as il only be tipping it to strip the underneath. Im gonna fit my new sills first. Cheers.

Steve - I was concerned that a naked Trav resting on its side is depending on the B pillar a lot more than a saloon which has a much stronger roof structure. And also, everything to the rear of the seat box is floppy (technical term) without the wood on, so if you tipped it with the rear axle still in place there would be quite a lot of twisting force as it went over. Good luck however you decide to do it!

Nam - I had to buy in all the components for my highly sophisticated rollover jig. Cost me £35!

You may well have uncovered a rarity there quite literally! I have never seen another Morris Minor in that colour before.

Wow, this thread has got it all hasn't it! Now that you two have made up here's some more progress -

Cut out the tunnel cover as it was taking too long to take out the welds so will deal with them later. I got the gearbox bolts out now so a success. And finally got both front wings off with minimal damage and ready to tackle the final removal of the gearbox.[frame][/frame][frame][/frame][frame][/frame][frame][/frame]

My old thread is still here from over 4 years ago and the car has been sat in my garage. Well I have had a lot more time lately and it is now out and ready to be tipped on it's side. Just waiting for a few guys who will be coming to help me. I've also started stripping the paint off the panels. I'm planning to take it all down to bare metal.

Glad to hear that you will soon be making further progress on your Morris. Don't give up on it. I can see that there is a lot of work still required but you will win in the end.
By the way, the colour of your car is indeed BMC Dark Green (colour code GN 12) which was used on very late Minor Series11 and early Minor 1000 models. It is an unusual and very distinctive colour which looks beautiful when clean and polished! Rarely seen now. Something to look forward to when you reach that stage

Been something like 7 years with work on and off. But now I am determined to get it on the road in some form or another (i hope) . A blue re-spray is currently front runner.

It's your car, so your choice, all I'll say is that there are loads of Blue Minors out there.....

Thank you for the wishes. And very good point, blue is popular. The other colours mentioned are maroon and blackcurrant. I'm sure we will continue thinking while the welding is happening.

Before you decide on a colour, DO have a look at one or two in the original Dark Green. It is very striking I think and quite rare now having only been offered for a relatively short time.
