Morris 1275 Ital fan

Post by Garyjohndavies »

Any body had any experience with a fan, on an Ital 1275 in a minor . 6 bladed riveted steel 1275 MG ,or new 6 bladed plastic ?
Also any experience with stiffening up original shock absorbers with straight 40 oil ,as opposed to after market bolt on units . This is a road car .

Hello,
Almost an Ital but I had 1275 Midget engine with its standard 6 bladed plastic fan. There wasn't a lot of clearance with the radiator so I chickened out and fitted 2 metal Minor blades at 90 degrees to each other. It was that bit thinner. That was fine and once confident, I just reverted to a single blade again with no problems. I've now got an electric fan fitted in front of the radiator and no metal fan blades on the water pump at all. I'm surprised how little the fan actually comes on. The rad is more than comfortable at cooling especially if its in good order and not furred up.
Cheers, Colin.

Just use a Minor two blade fan - there is no requirement to use a Ital or Midget fan. The Minor if using a standard radiator is way over cooled.

If you have the Ital timing chain cover with breather make sure that whatever fan you use it clears the breather canister.

In relation to the above - if you are using a standard 1275cc 'A' Series water pump the front face of the water pump fan mounting flange will be in the same point whether you have a 1275cc Ital or 1275cc Midget engine. The blocks are the same length and height.

Again just drain and refill with straight 30 or 40 grade oil. Worked well for me. I would try the straight 30 grade oil first.
