Engine numbers definition

Post by jagnut66 »

Hi,
Somewhere on here this has been covered before but I can't seem to find it, probably buried in a post somewhere.
I did have a printed copy but God knows where that is, I have looked where I 'should have put it'.....
My engine number starts '9M U H' folllowed by the engine number itself.
I remember that the '9M' bit signifies a 948 engine but what does the 'U H' signify?
Perhaps someone could post up a list of prefixes and their definitions on here that everyone could refer to.
Many thanks,
Mike.

1970 Triumph Herald 1200: "Hetty" -- Driven back from Llangollen in Wales (twice.....)
1952 Morris Minor MM highlight with sidevalve engine still fitted, wants work, so joins the queue for now......

I will give my hapenny worth
9 - 948CC engine
M - Morris
U - Central gearcheange
H - high compression engine

I'm sure someone in the know will tell me I'm incorrect but that's what I think they mean.
