Tack Cloth

Post by davew1949 »

Need a bit of advice on using a tack cloth please.
I'm doing a bit of rust repair and have preped the metal work. I've bought some tack cloths but when I wiped them over the metal my hands felt a bit greasy afterwards. Then I read that they are impregnated with bees wax.
Surely putting wax on a surface you are about to paint can't be good. Do I have to de-grease the surface after using these and before painting.
Many thanks,
Dave

If they are proper automotive tack cloths you will be perfectly alright.

I have used them in the past to give the panels to be painted a once over to remove any dust/particles before spraying. I have never experienced any problems with their use.

Have a look at the link below:-

It does mention the beeswax.

Extremely light pressure on the tack rag is the secret.

Many thanks Phil, that makes me feel much more confident about using them.
Cheers.
