Limeflower

Hi all,

Been having an argument with my family recently about Limeflower, they say it's a horrific colour and that I shouldn't spray my new Traveller that colour, I on the other hand say it's a great colour, and it wasn't seen to be ugly in it's heyday because that was the trend, so just out of curiosity I wanted to ask everyone about their thoughts on Limeflower?

Colour is a matter of opinion. If you like it, that's fine. It was once the case that colours like maroon were prone to fade but I'm not sure that's the case with paints these days. I once had a Mini 1000 in slime green (Turned out it was called Applejack). It wasn't a great colour but at the time I wanted reliable, economical transport and a one owner, 25000 mile Mini, that cost me £1550, seemed to be what I wanted. The colour was subjective, the rest was fact and that little car was on the road for a good ten years after I sold it (It was, in some ways, a better car than the new Mini City that replaced it - which was white and which I think Austin Rover had painted with Tippex; it was not at all durable paint). Function before form!!

For my money, I'd leave it the original colour, simply as to change is such a pain!! Perhaps if you are down to a bare shell it's not so bad.

Yes, a love it or hate it colour. It may limit interest if you ever come to sell it, but who knows! My trav is maroon B, and I was warned that it may fade but ten years on it’s still looking fresh. Modern paint ,I suppose.

It's a bare shell, I'd love an old Mini, maybe a companion for my Moggy...

If I were going for a concours restoration on a car that left the factory with Limeflower paint, then yes - I'd give it a fresh coat of Limeflower. Having said that, whilst I don't dislike the colour, I wouldn't personally change the colour TO Limeflower.... I don't like it THAT much

It's one more thing that's a matter of personal taste.

Oddly enough the Mini is the reason why there is no series 4 Minor, the Morris Mini Minor was it. I had three Minis, the last one being my one and only brand new car. My first one was my first car and that went when I bought the Midget. I then got the green one, the following year, in order to save the Midget from regular use (MG's Abingdon plant was gone and you only found MG badges on Metros, Maestros and Montegos). When looking for a runabout, what I really wanted was a Clubman estate but the only one I came across had rather more miles on it than I wanted. I never gave a thought to a Morris Minor Traveller, as I didn't know they were collectible (So assumed most would be clapped out wrecks). At the time I had access to only one covered parking space, so maybe a relatively new Mini was the way forward. Once I got the house, in 1990, I then had covered parking for the Mini too (By that time the last one) but I subsequently changed that for a Mk 2 Golf GTI. Granted, as an all round car, the Golf was probably the best car I'll ever own (It was still easy to work on) but on reflection, I wish I had gone down the Traveller route then, if not before.

Oddly enough, the Golf was the only car I had where it was the colour I would have chosen (Red). I very much like my teal blue Traveller but I had almond green in mind, with Bermuda blue second. The Midget is black and as it has black bumpers, it all blends together and has a glorious shine but red or perhaps yellow would have been first choice. I've always put the car before the colour.

If I were to come into a vast fortune and could afford more garage space (And wished to go to the effort), a Mini Cooper S would be high up the list of possible candidates to fill said space. Some kind of pre 1940 MG or Morgan 4/4 would be first on the list and a Series Land Rover (With a Brian James trailer) would be very useful but then we come to things like the Lotus Elan, MG Z Magnette, Riley RM (2 1/2) or Mini Cooper (Sorry Enzo, your stuff is way down the list).

I do as well, like I said, it's of it's time, back then it was the "trend"

So two points already raised: If it's a keeper have whatever colour you want. If you have an eye on selling one day, another colour might help the sale.

Another point, if you are painting because it needs a respray, painting the same colour can be cheaper because you might not have to paint the inside, the door jambs etc. Less masking, less preparation = less time and materials.

It's a complete rebuild, I've actually completely given up on Limeflower, I'm purchasing the car with a family member and we've been having a bit of an argument over Limeflower, I was pretty much defeated, I'm pretty sure Almond Green will be the final colour

Possibly the worst feature of Limeflower was the factory choice of very dark navy blue interior trim as standard... complete with carpet which could turn a nasty shade of patchy brown with wear and fading...

I think that the dark trim compliments limeflower but I am biased

As you can tell, I'm not a huge fan of Limeflower. Over the years I've had a Marina and a late Minor Traveller, both painted Teal Blue with Limeflower interior. I didn't particularly like the colour combo but beggars can't be choosers!

I'm looking for another Marina at present and recently saw an early base model. Paintwork is very dark green 'Green Mallard' and interior is Limeflower. Being an early base model it has rubber floor coverings instead of carpets. I have to say I could live with that colour combo.

The Marina was a great car far better than the mk2 escort and I especially liked the 1800tc
