Reclining front seats

Can anyone adivise me on fitting reclining front seats to my 1968 2 door saloon? I find the originals very un-comfortable when driving, I'm quite tall so it dosen't help!
Can posh mini seats be fitted or can other modern car seats be fitted without much modification to floor? Of course I'd have the new seats re-covered to oroginal colour / poattern.

ive seen fiesta seats in a moggy,look ok too,only need a spacer/raising piece of steel under the front,steve

depending what you want to spend i have allegro recliners in one car and newton commercial recliners in the other, both very comfy. Allegro seats just bolt in where the mog ones were (or they appear to i didnt fit these) the newton commercial ones require some drilling but they are very easy to fit.

They look like a bit like "series II" seats but the floor mountings are different. I fitted a set to my saloon at the weekend. They are realy comfy, not sure if they are worth what newtonn commercial charge though!

If I aquire non standard reclining front seats and take them to be re-upholstered in the proper colour, how will the correct material be obtained? Will the upholsterer supply this or will I have to obtain it and give it to the upholsterer?

Newton Commercial I think is the only place to obtain the right material.

Ive fitted MG Metro seats by bolting 2 pieces of channel from sill to sill the height works out OK. a spacer each side of the transmission tunnel is a good idea.Can send youphotos/sketch if you want.

Saab seats are the business and these are well priced. You also get fully electric ones with memory (drivers only) if you're really lazy!!!.

lol at the JLH 'mounting kit' its just some metal bars bolted together then bolted to the seat!
I made an indentical kit using a set of nuts and bolts and some thick shelving bracket support to fit Rover GTI seats into a mk2 Fester.

A drill, a junior hacksaw and half hours work is all it takes.

As an update, I noticed a number of different seats used when I was at the National Rally - Metro, Marina, XR3i, (Saab - mine), I'm sure there were some Newton (they don't look too obvious!) etc. Basically it's the seat mounting that needs the ingenuity. Find some that you like and see if they fit (width and height).

Dunketh, as I wrote, my seats were fitted at JLH - I didn't get a kit, so we may be talking of different things - the seatsrails were fitted onto a "top hat" section of steel sheet which was then adjusted to the correct height off the floor (angle grinder & welder), then bolted to the original bolt holes at the front and the floor at the back. Not exactly

just some metal bars bolted together then bolted to the seat!

things may have changed....

However, I'm really happy with the mounting - It's much stronger thtn the original... plus I have seats with head-supports. One of my work colleagues has just had her car written off by a rear end shunt, so I feel much happier with them in.
