Mostly not having to worry about points barbequeing themselves, well, no more points, so less electrical maintenance

Yes, no more point setting & no more condensors going south... Should also mean you get full power & best MPG without constantly fettling.

I use an Aldon Ignitor on another vehicle & people from here have used them to great effect. Not cheap though but seem to be more reliable & cheaper than lumenition & are also more hidden as all parts go under the dizzy cap...

Yep, I use an Aldon Ignitor too (have done for over 10 years). The only problem that I had (after 10 years) was one of the leads going to the unit broke internally and caused an intermittant misfire, but after re-soldering it was fixed.

Better than the steam type!

The Lumenition system is all hidden inside the distributor and is/or used to be cheaper (about £10) than the Aldon type. But yes an improvement on the contact breaker.

huh - I thought Lumenition had only just starting doing a version that's all internal of the dizzy cap? The "normal" lumenition has a box you have to bolt somewhere under the bonnet & they were always more expensive not cheaper!

In any case the Aldon version is more reliable.. there are others around apart from these 2, practical classics did a review last year I think of a few different ones if you can get a copy.....

There are two types of the lumenition kit, one fits under the dizzy cap, and the other much more expensive kit is an 'optronics' one, which uses an external box. Hope this helps,

That's right Tim, the "Magnetronic" fits into the distributor.
