As you can imagine the underside of my 1970 Traveller is a right mess with lots...and lots....of welding to do. I'm possibly getting a bit ahead of myself here....but....
How were they finished when they came away from the factory. On mine, it looks as though the rear underside was finished in a black primer then in front of the cross member and in the wheel arches it was finished in the bodywork colour. I seem to remember reading somewhere that the underside was treated with an underseal Schutz then painter over in the bodywork colour, but I can't find that now.
I'd like to get the car as original as possible if only to disguise my inexpert welding

My MM only ever had body colour paint on the underside.

I think I'm right in saying that that was common to cars from that era; hence their imperviousness to rusting and the effects of road-salting in the winter months!

Not the black tar-y Shultz as that doesn’t take a top coat well, but a stonechip paint from a Shultz gun is good to then take a body colour top coat.

3m do a great stone chip , and can be painted with most paint types
