Whilst re-doing the exhaust pipe/manifold joint I was wandering if there is a more efficent silencer that is worth fitting to a standard 1098cc Minor? Owen Burton used to recommend a Midget silencer. I am not interested in a particularly "sporty" note nor in retaining the "Minor" note, just a bit more power and/or better fuel consumption.

Yes the Sprite Mk I silencer was straight-through and made a super noise when fitted (40 years ago) to my Minor !! Made it go twice as fast too - - well that's how it felt at the time! You're on the right track though - the Minor exhaust is very restrictive - and I don't think it is all in the silencer ! Several Cos sell 'big bore' exhausts - not inexpensive though.
