Electronic Ignition

There is an electronic ignition unit on ebay suitable for a mini/metro. Should this work on my 1340 Midget engine?

Yes it should but make sure it is for a Lucas distributor and not a Ducellier one as both were fitted to Minis and Metros in certain years.

Having said that, it's a lot more likely that it is for a Lucas distributor, as when I bought mine (10 years ago) I don't think Aldon did electronic ignitions for Ducellier distributors.....

Best check though.....

on the subject of electronic ignition,
has anyone fitted one of those old sparkrite things? they sort of piggy back the distributor i think. Are they any good? they pop up on ebay some times.

I just stick with good old points - in good condition - on both my Mini and my Traveller.

Used to have one on a 'Chevette' years ago (my Dads).
They keep the points to trigger the spark, but decrease the current through them so they don't burn out. We found it worked well but the current through the points didn't keep them clean. The normal clean and adjustment is therefore still neded. When the dizzy cap burnt out (maybe because of the increased spark energy) the car suffered a little p[erformance loss until you switched back to conventional when it died completely, so it proves the box does someething. I bought an Electronise kit and built it for my own car. This didn't suffer from the points not being kept clean but was affecxted by damp until I waterproofed the circuit board.
