Temperature sender adapter

Post by James k »

Hi,
I've got a temperature gauge to fit to my Traveller but the sender is the wrong thread size. When I rebuilt the engine, I fitted a sender from ESM, designed to go with a Smith's gauge but, since I fitted a Durite oil pressure gauge, I bought a matching temperature gauge. I thought it might work with the existing sender but it turns out that it read way too high. The gauge I have has a sender fitting of 1/8” NPTF. What thread adapter do I need to fit it into the head?

This is the gauge I have https://www.durite.co.uk/itm/Water-Temp ... 2mm/052323

Thanks,
James

The temp gauge take off thread in the head is 5/8" UNF so the adapter in the link below should do the trick:-

If you have a Smiths capillary type temp gauge the adapter in the link below is suitable.

Thanks. Is that adapter definitely for a 1/8"NPTF sender? I can't find a thread size anywhere in the description.

Whilst the MOSS link above states that the male thread is 5/8" UNF you are right in that the female thread is not clearly specified.

Here is a link to an adapter that does specify both - male 5/8" UNF and female 1/8" NPTF.

Thanks Phil. I ordered the adaptor and fitted it today (with some red loctite on the sender). It's working perfectly. The 88 degree thermostat opens as soon as the gauge reads 88! :D
