exporting morris minors

Post by dumbo »

Is there a MMOC in TURKEY ?Does anyone know the rules and regulation of exporting mm to TURKEY ?
I am hoping to go and live there for a while and while to powers that be allow you to keep a foreign car there for 6 months, further stays of the car are not allowed.(unless a full import tax of 100% of the value of the car is paid). The cars are apparently stamped onto your visa on arrival at point of entry. dumbo

it should be the same when you bring one back here , when we used to bring back tax free car we had to keep them out the country for 6 months then could bring them back here and sell them no problems .
but when you brought a car back that was over 6 years old you did not have to pay any thing as its over the age to pay the tax on it or its had the tax payed already .
then its just go to the mot thing over there mot it on the brit plates then go to the registration place thay should change all over to there way of doing things .
i hope this helps but its what we do and did we we returned from germany to the u.k

Why should it be? Customs and vehicle licencing regulations vary widely depending on the country you are going to. What applies in France or Germany has no bearing on Turkey (which isn't even in the EEC).

I guess the only way to get the correct advice is to contact the Turkish embassy...

Well - hopefully the Turkish Embassy will be able to put you in touch with the people that know their import tax laws and the people who do the vehicle adminsitration. That way you'll know what the legal position is and hopefully avoid an unexpected tax demand!

Thanks for the advice so far. I have asked about this at the Turkish Embassy and they said it all depends. On the age of the vehicle, on the condition (Idon't suppose they want it scrapped at the roadside), on the value - don't forget that they stipulate 100% import tax of the value of the car, and only allowed to come on the drivers' passport but must only stay in the country for no more than six months - that means the driver has to go at the same time. What it all depends on they did not say, but I got the impression that foreign cars are discouraged - they are obviously protecting their own motor industry. Which is OK but as the car is 50 this augaust and I have had it for over 20 years I am loathe to sell it now. Thanks for the help all.

It used to be and maybe still is the renault/fiat japanese models but for a few years now they have been building them in Turkey under the name of TURSAN OTOMOBIL I think, (Turkish Ford sort of thing). The cars are put together in factories in Turkey under license. Lately they have had license again, from Landrover and they are now building them there under the name of OTOKAR. The jandarma - military police - use them. At the moment they all drive these Defenders but under their new name. It makes one wonder if our government had used British made cars for government use how big a auto industry we may still have here. But that's enough of that. The cars the Turks build are economic, reliable and hard wearing.
