Please help! Starting problems.

Post by Sar »

Please help me out - I have a 69 saloon which won't start! I replaced the points and plugs earlier on in the week and this morning went to adjust the points gap - he started fine then but I've just gone out to take him out and now he wont start at all - he turns over but doesn;t fire and I dont think it can be the points as there's no spark there - please help - he is my daily driver and I need him for work tomorrow!
Thanks

hi

you dont say if its turning over or not.

presuming you mean it just wont fire, when youve been doing the points did you check the condenser cable and lo tension wire in the distributor arent shorting against the back plate ?

i had a similar problem this week

As grainger says, check all the wires, and make sure that the nylon bushes are in the right place. I've answered a question similar to this before, and I think the bush was the culprit. I only know, because I had wired my distributer up wrongly before. Sadly, I didn't notice until I had replaced half the ignition system.

Do a search on here - it's bound to be on here somewhere.... Good luck!

there you go then, phew first time ive been right in a long time :-?

it must have been a week for it, i spent hours fiddling with a multimeter trying to get the condenser wire in the right place.

glad its done, when they break down its usually something extremely simple like this.
