Correct Engine Number Prefix

Post by Boxofbits »

Hi All

Wondered if anyone knows the correct engine number prefix and sequence for a 1968 civilian Minor van ?

I am looking to obtain the correct engine hopefully with the engine number attached for the vehicle for restoration, and believe it might start with 10AB. And is it most likely low compression ?

Thanks in advance for info.

The engine prefix for the 1098cc Low Compression engine is 10AB.
The engine prefix for the 1098cc Low Compression engine with sealed circuit breathing is 10V.

Code example taken from BMC Minor wksp man:-

10AB .................................1098cc engine.
U .......................................Centre gear change.
L .......................................Low Compression.
123456 ..............................Engine serial number.
