Ribbed G/Box

Hi There,
I have a 52 Morry that was powered with thou motor and ribbed G/Box among other mods to it, But whats the ribbed gearbox all about, I have know idea . Cheers Steve.

The ribbed gearbox was originally mated to the 1098cc 'A' Series engine and has improved and stronger internals to cope with the additional power of the 1098cc engine.

And of course not forgetting the stronger ribbed gearbox casing to hold it all together. :D

It should be noted that not all ribbed gearboxes are the same as some of the internals are different dependent upon the application.

So what year did 1100cc motor arrive. Were they put in minors and vans and travellers ? Cheers Steve.

1962 onwards and they were installed in all variants of the Minor.

The most noticeable difference when driving is that the synchromesh is a lot better - the ribbed case box uses baulk ring instead of cone synchromesh, and it works much better!
