My local stores, where I buy my general shopping, are Morrisons and a local Mace shop. I rarely need to buy tools but when I do, I buy them from places specialising in tools.

I heard a funny/sad story the other day, which only goes to show that the most popular hobby in the world is vanity. It manifests itself in many ways, from out of condition, overweight men buying ultra lightweight bikes and matching kit or people buying certain types of cars, simply to impress other morons. In this case, it involved Waitrose online customers refusing home deliveries, where the van was unmarked. It seems they want the neighbours to see where they shop   . The person, who told me this, would be in a position to know and when I suggested that it must only involve one or two head cases, I was told that there are quite a few of them :o . Many years ago, a couple bought an ex demo 3 litre BMW but only after the car had been brought to their house, so they could see how it looked on the drive. It was rarely used (They had a firms car, which a few years before was a green Traveller) and their lovely double garage remained devoid of cars.........and yet people used to laugh at some early council house tenants, who put coal into the bath.

That's because the local low life population does not give a rats about wrecking someone else's place.

Yes, there seems to be an unhealthy mix of the arrogance, of what you might call the "Old time toff", with gutter manners. It's a very unhealthy mix. As a perfect example, I recall a traffic policeman saying that when you stopped so called professionals, they could sometimes be the most difficult. He recounted how once he stopped someone, just to advise them of something. The driver turned out to be a solicitor and despite having his family with him, began a tirade of profane abuse. Despite being given warnings, to moderate his tone, the man continued in the same vane and ended up being arrested. I seem to recall that he was driving the kind of car that seems to make some people feel superior to everyone else. I think a bit of national service wouldn't go amiss. I'm not old enough to have done it myself but I have a little experience of military discipline and I don't think it does any harm.

I can't say I am keen on stereotyping certain groups but I think as I get older, I am becoming more reclusive (Some of my best friends are animals and I say this with satisfaction). Someone recently suggested to me that customers of Morrisons are more friendly than those of Waitrose. I can't say I have noticed; perhaps he saw a "Pork Sprung Dork" trying to lord it over everyone in the car park and I would add that locally, the shops in question are in distinctly different areas; the catchment area of the one perhaps including a few more inflated egos (You might say pompous asses) . I must say it's nice to go to a classic car event, as you usually meet some pleasant people.......often Minor owners  :D .
