Hi, will my 1961 Morris Minor 948cc run ok with a SU HIF44 carb on it.

It will run, but I doubt it would be great - that carb is too large. If you want to go for a larger carb than standard, I would think a HIF 38 would be more than enough on a standard 948. That's what I have on a quite well-modded 948, and it's plenty on that too. Even that isn't going to give much benefit without other improvements to the breathing (exhaust, head etc.).

i have a hif38 on my 1098with 1275 head and maniflow exhaust thats plenty

The largest carb that can be run on a 948cc Minor with standard head and still perform 'reasonably' well is either a SU H4 or a SU HS4.
There is a lot that can be done to a SU H2 or SU HS2 carb to make it more efficient before going to a larger carb.

Yes, can't make a silk purse from a sow's ear. The car can only do so much in semi original form.
