Split screen centre pillar screws
Hi,
this is a bit of a long shot but does anyone know whether it is still possible to get hold of the screws that hold the centre pillar in place on the split screen? Or possibly even have some they would be happy to selll?
If they are anything like the outer trim then I guess they are virtually mpossible to find but I have read lots of threads about the rubbers and trims and what a nightmare they are to fit, but no one has mentioned the screws in any of them to my knowledge.
I only need two of the four but have no idea where to get them and would be grateful if anyone could tell me if I'm wasting my time asking/looking or not.
I have emailed Bryan about them as he seemed like the obvious first port of call but have had no response as yet.

Re: Split screen centre pillar screws
ESM do a full kit, part no. SV128, consisting of a chromed centre pillar with fixings (actually threaded studs with nuts and washers according to their picture). Unclear whether it includes the verical strip that fits on the inside of the car. May be worth contacting them to see if they can supply the studs and fixings as seperate parts.

Great, thank you for that, I'll get in touch with them.
I only need the screws though, everything else is in good nick.

Will do. I have a sneaky feeling that the answer will be no though...

Maybe as an alternative, take what fittings you still have and see if you can get a length of correctly threaded stud with nuts etc., and cut your own to size...? Never had to take mine apart (yet!) so I'm assuming it could be that easy

Re: Split screen centre pillar screws
The 4 screws are countersunk, clamping the plate to the pillar, with rubber gasket strips. One of mine snapped and the hole is filled with a gob of chewing gum, but three is still better than 2. I can't honestly see how the ESM kit is of any use.

Re: Split screen centre pillar screws
Thanks for pointing that out pde2000.
I was convinced that my centre pillar was retained by dome-top nuts plus an extra threaded stud that holds the mirror. Just nipped out to the garage, and yes indeed... countersunk screws as you say!
Must pay more attention to detail!

Re: Split screen centre pillar screws
The screws are quite unusual, they are hollow and are threaded internally and screw on to studs that are screwed into the pillar. Two of mine had just rotted away. I was surprised that they weren't made of brass.
I have heard back from ESM and, no they don't have any. Just nuts that screw on to the studs supplied with the pillar, although how they would reach I don't know. Maybe the studs they supply are longer than the originals.
Have also heard back from Bryan and he apparently does have some, which is good news!

Re: Split screen centre pillar screws
I might be able to knock up a couple, so long as you don'y mind paying whatever it costs me in material and postage? Best to see if anyone has a couple of old ones first, though.
PM me if you want them done. Cheers
Rob

Re: Split screen centre pillar screws
Thanks for the offer Rob but Bryan has just sent me four secondhand ones so I'm sorted now.
