I have this suitcase looking item that has angled sides, It looks like it was made to go into a specefic space, maybe a car boot? It has small feet on the back to stand it up on so i think it is made to be carried no just a box in the boot.
My thoughts exactly, there is one one picnic in VG nick . It seems to hint that it comes from a Rolls Royce or Bentley - pre-war, possibly made by Brexton.
Yes, it does look like a bit 'siimilar' in shape to one of the range of 'light car trunk' made by J B Brooks Ltd (cycle and motorcycle saddle and saddlebags etc.) originally produced from around 1919 to fit usually on a fold down rear car luggage carrier.
However the Brooks were made to a much higher quality than this appears to be, and would normally have their famous name plate ( real leather and superior patented spring clips etc.) This one looks perhaps like a more 'economy' later version and appears to be covered with an imitation 'leathercloth' fabric. It could have been fixed in place simply with a webbing belt type strap.

Think you have answered it Firedrake (your reply post beat mine posted around at the same time)
I understand the name Brexton was an amalgamation of the two company names Brooks and Sexton that continued on to make the famous picnic cases with their own name and for the famous department stores own specification named set models.

Well i think mystery solved, The covering is indeed leather cloth or faux leather, Most it seems ok and i think it is worth spending a bit of time making it useable, Maybe it will fit in the back of my traveller, Thanks all.
