Cooling system: Special "screw" needed
Dear mates,
Finally I got a "new" engine into my Milly (1957, 948 cc)! But the cylinder head is different to the former one. In the new one is a "screw" (please excuse my bad English, I'm German) with a hole, I don't know what it is for. I would like to replace it with a simple plug, that closes the cooling system. In the attachment you see two pictures of that part. How do I find a fitting plug?
Thanks for any help!
Frank

Re: Cooling system: Special "screw" needed
Three more questions:
#1: This screw to the cooling system seems not to have had a seal before. I fittet a rubber seal, will that be allright?

Where do I fix the holder of the throttle cable to the carburettor? Does it belong to one of the exhaust screws?

Re: Cooling system: Special "screw" needed
The plug for the cylinder head and which you require is Pt No: ADP210 and the washer is Pt No: AED172. Both available from MOSS.
The rubber washer fitted to the radiator return adapter is unsatisfactory and it should be fitted with a copper washer Pt No: ARA616, currently unavailable from MOSS but any suitable copper washer will do.
The bracket for the throttle cable fits between the large manifold washer and the spring washer/brass nut.
If you have a wksp manual - wiring diagrams with wire colours and to which terminals they are fitted is shown in the respective diagram for your car.

Re: Cooling system: Special "screw" needed
Thanks, phillthehill! That was great. I will try to find these parts in a German shop (Stevens), they could be quicker for me.
My workshop manual lies in the garage, I will look for the cables tomorrow.

Re: Cooling system: Special "screw" needed
Instead of fitting a screw fit a sender unit for a water temperature gauge.

Thanks so far!philthehill wrote:If you have a wksp manual - wiring diagrams with wire colours and to which terminals they are fitted is shown in the respective diagram for your car.
The wiring diagrams did not help at all. Can please somebody help with the distributor and the ignition coil? The car runs on negative earth.

Re: Cooling system: Special "screw" needed
The wiring diagrammes should indeed provide the answer but.....
the White wire Feeds the coil from the fuse box and then to th ignition Switch.
the White/black wire goes from the coil to the Distributor.
If you are not to far from Mittel Hessen, I could sort it for you.
*********************************

Re: Cooling system: Special "screw" needed
For I live in Hamburg instead of Mittelhessen, I try to explain the problem in English:
Milly gives me three wires: a yellow one, a yellow and green one and a yellow and black one. Yellow and yellow-green go to the generator, where do I put the yellow-black to?
From the generator to the ignition coil there are a yellow and a yellow and black wire. By fifty-fifty-chance the yellow one is fixed at plus (Milly is on negative earth).

Re: Cooling system: Special "screw" needed
I think some of the 'yellow' wires are actually 'white'?
The plain white wire (supply from the ignition switch) connects to the 'SW' or '+' on the coil for negative earth, and the white/black wire connects between the 'CB' or '-' on the coil and the connection on the distributor.
The dynamo wires are yellow and yellow/green - the larger wire is the yellow and connects to the larger of the dynamo terminals and the smaller yellow/green wire connects to the smaller dynamo terminal.
There is one more wire in the same area, it is green/yellow and connects to the oil pressure switch.
