Electronic distributor HELP

Post by BaldyTone »

Hi, I've just bought an Accuspark electronic distributor, Can someone please tell me the positions of the pickup to rotor arm when it's sparking, I'm not sure the drive dog is in the right position ( don't ask) well I know it's not.
Cheers Tony.

Hi,

When I first fitted Accuspark into my Traveller's (25D4) dizzy, it initially wouldn't start at all. I had to slacken the pinch bolt and turn the dizzy body through quite an angle - a good 20-30 degrees or so (to the right, IIRC) before it would start.

Then, adjust as you would for normal points, i.e., so it just doesn't pink when going up steep hills or accelerating in a high gear.

If you've completely lost the dizzy drive setting, get the No.1 cylinder nearest the radiator to TDC (feel for pressure by sticking your thumb over the spark plug hole as the piston rises), then set the dizzy rotor arm so it's pointing towards No. 1 cylinder on the dizzy cap - usually the top right position as you look at the dizzy).

Alternatively, you can pull No.1 plug and the dizzy cap. Stick a drinking straw or length of dowel in No.1 cylinder and turn the engine over by hand until the rotor is pointing at the No.1 plug wire AND the piston is at the top of it's travel. Rock back and forth a bit to find the high spot by watching the object in No.1 cylinder.

Thanks Chipper, I have set the engine at tdc, and I know approx where the rotor arm is pointing for No1 cylinder on the old dizzy, but the trouble is with this new dizzy I can't tell which position it sparks at, I don't think l can assume its in line with the pickup or opposite, or indeed anywhere else! Bummer, wish I'd stuck to a 25d! :-?
