Max the Moggie - LED lighting upgrade

Post by palacebear »

Having recently fitted Max with flashing LED trafficator bulbs, I decided to embark on a programme of LED upgrades for all his lights, except his headlamps which will have to be dealt with some other way. I'm only doing this a bit at a time as money is very tight at present.
Last week I ordered a pair of LED stop/tail bulbs from http://www.dynamoregulatorconversions.com who are one of the few companies I've found who supply positive earth LED bulbs, and who had supplied the trafficator bulbs a couple of weeks ago. Their website indicated that the business was closed for holidays until the end of July, and that any orders received would be posted on August 1st, so I was pleasantly surprised when my new bulbs dropped through the letterbox this morning.

The LED bulbs are a direct replacement for standard filament bulbs and quite straightforward to fit, although I had to deal with a distorted bulb-holder, with a tiny sliver of rubber wedged inside it to hold the bulb steady.

Following the suppliers' recommendations, I've used red coloured LEDs, despite them being fitted behind a red lens.

The end result is pleasing, even today with the sun shining on the car.

They look good PB , draw little power and last well, safety is paramount. I may give them a whirl on my 1957 4 door - Have I mentioned it is Clarendon Grey ???? (lol)

Just been outside coz I couldn't resist having a look at them in the dark. Definitely brighter than filament bulbs and both the same brightness. One of the filament bulbs was slightly dimmer and considerably older (brass cap) than the other (must check earths!).

@firedrake: I hear they're particularly well-suited to Clarendon Grey '57 4-door models. Do you have such a car, by any chance??
